Georgia Residents Directory is not a government office. We run a private reference service and cannot search a custodian's files, issue certified copies, confirm current occupancy, or change a public record. Ask the state or local office that keeps the file. For an emergency, call 911. If someone is stalking or threatening you, contact local law enforcement.
Where to Send a Georgia Records Request
Georgia does not have one public-records counter for all agencies. Start with the record type, then contact its custodian through the official route below. The address and procedures differ by county and agency.
- County property cards: choose the county through the Georgia DOR property-record directory, then use that county's assessor or GIS contact.
- Deeds, liens, and plats: search the GSCCCA land-record index; the county Clerk of Superior Court holds local books and certified copies.
- Voter registration: use the county registrar locator for local election-office procedures.
- Vital records: check the Georgia DPH request route for eligibility and the proper state or county office.
- Historical records: begin with the Georgia Archives research room or the library that holds the directory or local collection.
For records governed by the Georgia Open Records Act, direct a request for existing records to the agency's designated custodian. The Attorney General's Open Government FAQ explains the general request process. The Georgia research file does not provide a statewide public-records office street address, phone number, or hours; county clerks and local agencies publish their own contact details.
